THE ALEMBIC OF TRANSFORMATION

THE DISTILLATION OF LIFE'S EXPERIENCES

alem•bic \ ... 1 : an apparatus used in distillation 2 : something that refines or transmutes as if by distillation ...a distiller, vessel, transformer, elixir, magic wand, missing link.

The process of distillation is an excellent metaphor for human transformation. Life's hardships can sometime be as stressful as the experience of phase transition, such as water undergoes when vaporizing into steam, or gold when it is being purified one step at a time.

The Alembic of Human Transformation graphic is a diagram that outlines the progressive steps of transformation from one manner of being or doing into another of higher order. Human beings are constantly experiencing challenge and stress. The old adage is that these events either "kill you or make your stronger". This is just another way of saying that when these transient events suddenly appear on the scene, one either progresses to a higher level of order, or regresses to a state of chaos.

The basic procedural flow of this alembic is a continuous automatous feedback loop, where the output (results) are fed back into the input, which is used to change the output. At each clocked feeding (iteration) the output is allowed to change, grow and transform into something new.

In practical application the alembic is sometimes referred to as the mirror of reassembly, as it is the crucible in which takes place the process of never-ending self observation and assessment that brings about the continuous disassembly, rearrangement, and reassembly required for growth and evolution.
