Stress and Your Health
– simple solutions to a growing problem
by Dr. Rosalia Mariz
The autumn leaves are beginning to fall and crunching underfoot as we walk in the cool crisp mornings of October. It is time to transition into shorter days less sunshine. It is a time of more rain and cooler temperatures, which for some people can mean an increase in joint and body pains and sometimes increased fatigue and sadness.
Especially this fall with the economic and political uncertainty in the world, many people are feeling particularly stressed and more diseases, both mental and physical are being manifested, sleep issues and irritability are rising. Stress causes chemical changes in the body that, left unchecked, can have negative effects on both mental and physical health. High levels of stress contribute to health issues as diverse as depression, insomnia, heart disease, skin disorders and headaches.
Did you know that the overproduction of the hormone cortisol, triggered by your body’s stress response, can lead to adrenal burnout, memory loss, and aging? Cortisol causes internal inflammation in the body. One of the most insidious consequences in the chronic increase in cortisol levels is the silent and increased inflammation inside the body. Chronic stress occurs when continuous acute stress responses keep the body on alert continuously, negatively affecting health. The ongoing stress response causes the hypothalamus and pituitary gland (portions of the brain) to release a chemical known as ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). ACTH, known as the "stress hormone" stimulates the adrenal gland to produce and release cortisol.
Cortisol is one of the hormones associated with waking and sleeping. Levels of cortisol naturally fluctuate during the day. Cortisol levels are highest in the morning and lowest at night. Higher levels of cortisol in the morning help us wake up. When chronic stress stimulates cortisol production, the daily cycle of cortisol levels is disrupted. High levels of cortisol may occur at night. This can result in insomnia. Stress causes physiological changes that tend to weaken our immune system. When our immune system becomes compromised, our health can be negatively affected: infections and illness occur more frequently, and immune system disorders such as psoriasis and eczema can "flare up." Outbreaks of oral and genital herpes occur with greater frequency during times of stress.
Psoriasis, eczema, and other inflammatory immune system disorders have been linked to stress. When inflammation occurs, cortisol and other glucocorticoid hormones trigger an anti-inflammatory reaction in the immune system. Stress interferes with the immune system's ability to respond to these hormones.
Stress levels affect health, but the effects are often not immediately seen. Imbalances of cortisol and other stress-related hormones weaken health over time. Practicing stress management techniques can help minimize the effects of stress on your health. There is no way you can be in a state of wellness if your cortisol levels are too high. Silent inflammation is simply inflammation that falls below the threshold of perceived pain. That’s what makes it so dangerous. You are not aware of the need to take any steps to stop it as it smolders for years, eventually erupting into what we call chronic, and oftentimes serious, disease. In the Vital Hematology Department at HealthWalk™ we can see via live blood analysis at the cellular level whether there is inflammation in the body, whether the cells have free radical damage, if the cells are healthy, any hormone imbalances, mineral and B12 levels, and what type of antigens the body is fighting. Most importantly we can give you information and support on how to help yourself improve the quality of your life and your loved ones’ lives. Despite the difficult life circumstances, HealthWalk™ can provide you with the analysis and solution to feeling better and enable you to deal with the mountains you have to climb.
HealthWalk’s ReGenesys™ is an excellent supplement for reducing and alleviating inflammation caused by stress. When there is inflammation the cells are close together and do not have much space between them. They are then unable to acquire the needed amount of nutrition or oxygen. When we see this in the client’s blood in our clinic, we ask the client to drink HydroMag™ treated water and take five capsules of ReGenesys™. After about twenty minutes the client’s body has absorbed ReGenesys™’ optimally balanced minerals and adaptogene blend and the hydromag treated water, we can see a completely different picture in their blood. The cells are now separate and free flowing; which means that they are now able to absorb nutrients and oxygen.
There are several factors at work in this quick and visible demonstration of the efficacy of HydroMag™ treated water and the natural supplement ReGenesys™. First Hydromag™ technology reduces the water’s surface tension and restores water to its natural state lost in today’s environment and processing. Drinking Hydromag™ treated water has been shown to help alkalize your blood, normalize blood flow and pressure and increase nutrients absorption from food, minerals and supplements.
Second ReGenesys™ helps restore your energy and offer the nutritional support needed for healthy neurological functioning. ReGenesys™ contains some of the highest concentrations of enzymes in any product today. ReGenesys™ also contains calcium, magnesium, dimethylglycene and boron for muscle and nerve function enhancement, malic acid for detoxification and powerful natural adaptogens to help the body recover from stress. ReGenesys™ has a perfect balance of calcium, magnesium and other minerals which is essential to the blood and bones to keep us strong. These are also vital because they help keep our heart beats stable, our nerve and muscle functions normal, our bones strong, and our immune systems active. In addition, magnesium keeps blood sugar levels low, normalizes the blood pressure and is a key contributor to protein synthesis and energy metabolism.
ReGenesys™ supports proper neurological functioning. It is also a great post workout recovery aid to relieve muscle soreness, enhance energy, improve healthy nerve function, and improve muscle and bone tissue growth. Magnesium is also essential to bone formation; it gives them their physical structure, along with calcium and phosphorus. Along with calcium, magnesium helps monitor muscle and nerve activities, to make sure calcium does not just rush into the nerve cells and activate them, thus keeping nerves relaxed.
During these tumultuous times, it is especially important to take care of yourself so that you can have the energy and mental focus to do what you need to do and have the energy to take care of others. At HealthWalk™ we are looking forward to supporting and empowering you to regain, maintain and enhance your health. To your vibrant health.
